Big 12 announces full Kansas football 2023 schedule
Kansas continues to be the feel-good story of college football, climbing out of the basement of the Power Five. Head coach Lance Leipold was able to inject attention and momentum into the program and now, the goal will be to carry over into the 2023 season.
For the first time in a long time, some form of expectations will be in Lawrence. Of course, no team can set a ceiling or floor without seeing the schedule first. While the three non-conference opponents have been known for some time, the remaining nine games had not been revealed quite yet.
The Big 12 announced the full schedule for Kansas on Tuesday, with two new opponents being added. BYU and Cincinnati are brand new conference members and will get to face off against the Jayhawks in their first season. Some needed new blood and competition.
- Week 1 (Sept. 2) – Missouri State
- Week 2 (Sept. 9) – Illinois
- Week 3 (Sept. 16) – at Nevada
- Week 4 (Sept. 23) – BYU
- Week 5 (Sept. 30) – at Texas
- Week 6 (Oct. 7) – UCF
- Week 7 (Oct. 14) – at Oklahoma State
- Week 8 (Oct. 21) – BYE
- Week 9 (Oct. 28) – Oklahoma
- Week 10 (Nov. 4) – at Iowa State
- Week 11 (Nov. 11) – Texas Tech
- Week 12 (Nov. 18) – at Kansas State
- Week 13 (Nov. 25) – Cincinnati
Kansas hoping for continued success under Lance Leipold
When Kansas won a basketball national championship in March, many thought that would be the best story on campus of the year. While that still might be true, having this level of success on the football field would have been given lower odds than what Bill Self’s squad was able to accomplish.

A Nov. 5 win against Oklahoma State gave Jayhawks bowl eligibility, something that could not be said in Lawrence since the 2008 season. Six total wins from the 2022 season surpassed the total of the previous three years, having five from 2019-2021.
Arkansas was the bowl opponent, with Kansas losing in a thrilling Autozone Liberty Bowl. A losing record then ensued, finishing at 6-7. Thus, Leipold now has a goal for the 2023 season. Getting above .500 before the calendar turns once again would be another ‘first since 2008’ scenario for the Jayhawks.
