During the Maui Invitational this week, Samuel L. Jackson tweeted about Hunter Dickinson’s flopping as Kansas took on Tennessee. It quickly went viral, and Dickinson later responded on his Roundball Podcast with Barstool Sports’ Marty Mush.

Jackson compared Dickinson to a soccer player, tweeting ” this Dickenson MF on @KUHoops flops like he’s on a Soccer Pitch!!!” during Kansas’ victory over Tennessee. It was part of another big night for the Michigan transfer, who’s averaging a double-double to start the year.

As for what he thought about Jackson’s tweet, Dickinson said he noticed the replies.

“I know. It’s kind of tough,” Dickinson said. “I’ll let Samuel have his moment. But if you see all the replies, it’s all like Kentucky, Michigan State, Illinois, Marquette. It’s a lot of fan bases coming together to rejoice. It is what it is.”

Dickinson didn’t respond on social media, but he said he thought about it.

“The tweet I was going to tweet out is, like, ‘All publicity’s good publicity,'” Dickinson said. “… You’ve got to take the good with the bad, I guess.”

Dickinson had another massive game in the 69-60 win over Tennessee, scoring 17 points and pulling down 20 rebounds to lead the charge. It’s already his second 20-rebound performance through six games, and his time in Lawrence is off to a roaring start.

Dickinson gave credit to coach Bill Self for putting him in positions to succeed, and his players for helping set him up, as well.

“Just playing with the best guys, so unselfish, playing for a great head coach,” Dickinson said. “He knows how to draw up a couple plays for me. But it’s really the players out there, really trying to be so unselfish and looking for me all the time.”

Hunter Dickinson: Maui Invitational was for KJ Adams

Kansas was also motivated to play the Maui Invitational this week with Jayhawks forward KJ Adams in mind. Adams’ mother, Yvonne, passed away this past week after battling cancer.

No one would have faulted Adams if he decided to stay home to be with his family, but he instead made the trip to be with his teammates. He appeared in all three of the Jayhawks’ tournament games, including a 69-60 victory against Tennessee on Wednesday to earn third place.

After the game, Kansas center Hunter Dickinson spoke with ESPN, where he dedicated the performance to Adams.

“Kev said it earlier, the whole tournament’s for him,” Dickinson said. “Everything we’re doing, everything that he’s going through. I can only imagine what he’s going through right now. But we’re here for him and we tried to go out there and get the win for him.”
