The Kansas Jayhawks hired Joe Dailey as an offensive analyst as the former NFL assistant returns to Lawrence, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

“Sources: Kansas (has) hired former Carolina Panthers receiver coach Joe Dailey as the school’s new offensive analyst,” Thamel wrote on Twitter. “Dailey coached at Boston College, New Mexico and Liberty. He also was Kansas’ recruiting coordinator in 2010.”

Dailey coached with the Carolina Panthers last season under Matt Rhule, who was eventually fired and then hired by Nebraska. Dailey toured around as a coach since 2008.

Now, he’ll coach under Lance Leipold for a rising Jayhawks football team.

Dailey began his coaching career at Buffalo in 2008 as a grad assistant and tight ends coach. He joined Kansas in 2010 as the team’s recruiting coordinator before coaching quarterbacks at Bethune-Cookman in 2011.

He coached the same position at Liberty from 2012-13 and added offensive coordinator duties in 2014. In 2019, Dailey did the same at New Mexico and then wide receivers at Boston College from 2020-21.

Dailey did not follow Rhule to Nebraska, his former stomping grounds. The former Panthers assistant played quarterback and wide receiver at Nebraska from 2003-04 and then at North Carolina from 2005-07.

Jalon Daniels announces return to Kansas in 2023

The offense certainly got a boost when Jalon Daniels announced his return to the program for the 2023 campaign. Dailey should have fun working with the dual threat quarterback.

“Ever since I first touched the field at 8 years old, it was always a dream of mine to be able to play college football at the Division I level,” Daniels said in a video announcing his return. “Under the lights, with my brothers, listening to the roar of the crowd, and being able to accomplish what many people thought I couldn’t.”

“These past three years–you’ve brought me in as one of your own. Helped up pack The Booth. Stayed down with us when nobody else believed. And have not only helped me grow as an athlete, but as a man. This season was full of many trials and tribulations. But along with those trials and tribulations were many blessings that not only I was able to achieve as a player, but we were able to achieve as a program.”
