Kansas is headed into a gigantic matchup with Big 12 rival Baylor on Saturday, but star guard Kevin McCullar Jr. may have to sit out against the Bears.

McCullar Jr. has dealt with various injury issues throughout the 2023-2024 season, but he’s been awesome when on the court. During an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday, McCullar elaborated on his status, and whether or not he’d be available.

“I’m feeling good. I’m a little banged up right now. Don’t know if I’ll be able to go tonight. But it’s going to be a good game,” McCullar Jr. said. “Crazy environment in here, as always. Best fans in the nation. But yeah, just looking forward to getting back on the court with my brothers. Going to be cheering them on all night. It’s going to be good.”

So from that statement, it seems as if McCullar Jr. will be sitting out tonight’s game. Kansas hasn’t come out and said anything yet, but that’s the best explanation regarding the guard’s status at the moment, straight from himself.

Alas, time will tell if anything changes ahead of the Big 12 clash, but Kansas would love to have Kevin McCullar Jr. on the floor if he’s available. If not, he’ll certainly be resting with dreams of bringing a national title to Kansas when the time comes.

College GameDay breaks down if Kansas is a title contender

Moreover, Kansas is a bonafide contender out of the Big 12, so say the analysts on College GameDay.

The Jayhawks have everything you need to win a title, according to Andraya Carter and Seth Greenberg. The balance Kansas plays with on offense and defense could ultimately carry this team through March.

Carter broke it down first on College GameDay Saturday ahead of the team’s matchup with Baylor.

“I think Kansas maybe that makes them special … I mean, you got three guys that are in the top 20 in the Big 12 when it comes to assists,” Carter said. “The way that they find each other on offense. The way they handled Houston’s pressure. Houston’s defensive pressure is what they’re known for. Kansas handled it like a pro, they’re finding each other …

“The way they pass in the connectedness that they have on offense, and then the defensive improvements … We all thought that Houston was gonna take Kansas off the map and pick them apart in the pick and roll game … I think Kansas is a title contender out of the Big 12.”

Greenberg, in addition to breaking down film, kept it simply regarding Kansas.

“Kansas has the best offense and best defense,” Greenberg said. “They have the best starting five in the country …”
