Kansas Basketball: Jamari McDowell commits to Jayhawks, Bill Self
Manvel (Texas) High four-star recruit Jamari McDowell tells On3 he has committed to Kansas.
McDowell, a 6-foot-5 class of 2023 combo guard, ultimately chose the Jayhawks over Texas A&M, Wake Forest, and Xavier. He also received offers from Alabama, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Georgetown, and others.
The Texas native is Kansas’ second commitment to the class, joining four-star CG Chris Johnson.
McDowell is the No. 85 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 13 combo guard and the No. 6 player in the state of Texas.
McDowell on his commitment to Kansas
“I chose Kansas for the opportunity and stage they offer there,” McDowell said to On3. “All of my options had a platform, resources, and really great people but KU was something different.”

“To the KU fans, I know we’re going to have a great relationship and we gonna get another one before it’s all said and done! #RockChalkJayhawk.”
Scouting Summary
Toughness is the biggest takeaway after watching Jamari McDowell. The 6-foot-5 wing does a lot of things that affect winning. He is a good athlete, both laterally and vertically. You want to see him continue to develop the ball skills and become a more consistent three-point shooter. McDowell can defend multiple positions along the perimeter and even, in time with added weight, switch down a lineup. Productive. – On3’s Jamie Shaw, National Recruiting Analyst
