Everything was going Kansas’ way early on vs. Tennessee Tech on Friday. But the biggest play of the first half came on a blocked field goal, which the Jayhawks turned into a touchdown.

Jereme Robinson got a hand on it, and Cobee Bryant scooped it up and took it 61 yards to the house for a touchdown to extend the Kansas lead to 21-0 with 4:42 left to play in the first quarter.

Kansas got the scoring starter early on against the Golden Eagles, scoring on back-to-back drives to start the game and take a 14-0 lead.

The Jayhawks are coming off a rough to start the Lance Leipold era, going 2-10 last year. But they’re off to a solid start to the 2022 season after reportedly extending Leipold’s contract by a year earlier this week.

Report: Kansas extends Lance Leipold’s contract through 2027

The Jayhawks added a year to Leipold’s contract, meaning his deal will now run through 2027, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported. He’s gearing up for his second season in Lawrence and Kansas showed some promising signs last season under his leadership.

The Jayhawks went 2-10, but picked up their lone Big 12 victory in an upset win over Texas. They also had a 17-7 lead over Oklahoma and kept it close against TCU, which were big steps for a program that didn’t win a game in 2020.

Thamel added Kansas considered last season “Year 0” for Leipold since he wasn’t around for spring practice and didn’t have much time with his team until summer training camp. Now, his contract will wind up being a full six-year deal.
