Kansas has unveiled a new all-black uniform set that it will wear for its next game Friday versus Illinois.

The team announced the uniform with a hype video Sunday morning on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The jersey features the 1941 Jayhawk logo, which features a more intense looking Jayhawk than the current logo. The Kansas Memorial Union describes it as a “contentious appearance.”

It is not just the Jayhawk that makes this jersey a potential fan favorite. The uniform also incorporates the circus font, which was first popularized by the men’s basketball team in the 1980s. The team’s gameday flag is also placed inside the collar.

The game will kick off in Lawrence, Kan., at 6:30 p.m. CT.

The Jayhawks will enter the game 1-0 after a Week 1, 48-17 victory over Missouri State. However, the team was without star quarterback Jalon Daniels. Daniels has dealt with back spasms in recent weeks.

“Jalon is feeling better but didn’t have enough practice reps to feel comfortable as the season (approached),” head coach Lance Leipold said after the game, via the Kansas City Star.

Jason Bean started in place of Daniels and led the Jayhawks offense to 521 yards of offense, including 27 first downs. The Bears offense managed only 217 yards of offense as the Kansas defense held strong throughout the game.

Missouri State kept the game close for the first three quarters but the Jayhawks pulled away with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Bean threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns on 22 of 28 throwing the ball. He also added 41 rushing yards. Running back Devin Neal paced the ground attack with 94 yards.

“I’ve said it probably too many times, but its showed itself today, for the second consecutive August Jason Bean has played extremely well in fall camp, and I think he’s continued to get better,” Leipold said. “Again with everything going down, I’m glad the young man came back for another year and his confidence in understanding and running the offense, running the ball. I think there is only one time he was really flushed out of his pocket, like to his left or something. So its really great to see and really proud of his performance.”

The Fighting Illini will enter the The Sunflower State with a 1-0 after they won their game by a nose over Toledo, 30-28, thanks to a late field goal by Caleb Griffin.
