Kansas QB Jalon Daniels ruled out with shoulder injury
Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels is officially sidelined for the remainder of Kansas’ Saturday morning game against TCU. Daniels suffered a shoulder injury late in the second quarter of the game and would not return to action after being evaluated by the team. The last update from the FOX Sports crew came just as the third quarter was starting.
“I spoke to Lance Leipold at the half. He has not completely ruled out his quarterback from returning,” FOX Sports’ Allison Williams said after the halftime break. “He said he is still being evaluated in the locker room and said it’s about a 50/50 chance that Jalon Daniels can return to this ballgame. It will be Jason Bean to start the second half.”
Daniels rolled to his right before being tackled into the sideline by TCU linebacker Jamoi Hodge. Daniels remained on the ground for a brief period of time and then walked off the field under his own power, guided to the locker room by the Jayhawks’ medical team.
“The pain was evident on Jalon Daniels’ face as he made his way to the injury table there,” Williams said late in the second quarter. “Tears welling in his eyes and grimace across his face. Some signs of frustration and disappointment with that injury as well. I heard him pounding on the table there with that left hand while he was being attended to.”
Coming into this game, Daniels was one of the most popular players in all of college football. Through five games, Daniels had thrown for 983 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also adding 329 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Daniels helping make Lance Leipold a popular hire
Behind the play of Daniels, Kansas has become one of the top stories in college football. The Jayhawks entered this weekend at 5-0 and ranked No. 19 in the country. ESPN hosted the popular show College GameDay ahead of the Saturday morning matchup between the Jayhawks and the Horned Frogs.
Kansas’ success has second-year head coach Lance Leipold as a hot name on the coaching market. But Leipold does not appear to be interested in entertaining those interests.
“To sit there and worry about being anywhere else than here is something that’s a waste of time because my wife and I, in our family, are extremely happy here and expect to be here a long time,” Leipold said in response to that very topic on Fox Sports Radio with Doug Gottlieb this week.

Despite losing Daniels, things continued to go well for the Jayhawks. Backup Jason Bean led Kansas on a scoring drive to take a 17-10 lead shortly after coming into the game. But TCU has since tied it at 17-17.
