Kansas SG Noah Shelby enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Kansas shooting guard Noah Shelby has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Shelby transferred to Kansas last offseason and redshirted during the 2024-25 season.
Shelby was an invited walk-on for the Jayhawks. He began his college career at Vanderbilt, where he made 14 appearances. Shelby averaged 3.7 points in 9.1 minutes per game for the Commodores.
Shelby transferred to Rice after his lone campaign at Vanderbilt. At Rice, Shelby saw action in 31 games and started once. He averaged 3.9 points and 1.0 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game while shooting 35.1% from the field.
Shelby served as a practice player for the Jayhawks last season. He played high school basketball at Greenhill School (TX), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 125 overall player and No. 20 shooting guard in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.
Noah Shelby is the seventh Kansas player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. The Jayhawks suffered several significant losses, including Zeke Mayo and Rylan Griffen.
Mayo averaged 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game for the Jayhawks last season. He was the No. 9 player in On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.
While Kansas had its fair share of losses this offseason, it also made some impressive additions. Most notably, Kansas picked up a commitment from Illinois transfer Tre White.

White averaged 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season while shooting 50.7% from the field and 32.9% from beyond the arc. He played a pivotal role in the Fighting Illini’s run to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament, and will look to help Kansas find similar success.
Head coach Bill Self and Co. had a down year in the 2024-25 campaign. After entering the season as the No. 1 team in the country, Kansas squeaked into the NCAA Tournament as a 7-seed and suffered a first-round upset against Arkansas.
Since winning the national title in the 2021-22 season, Kansas hasn’t advanced past the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Nonetheless, the Jayhawks have plenty to be excited about as they head into the upcoming season.
Kansas is bringing in five-star freshman Darryn Peterson, who was the No. 2 prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. Self couldn’t be more excited to coach the elite talent.
“This is one of the best recruiting moments that Kansas basketball has had in decades,” Self said. “Darryn is an all-around guard that scores at all levels and is also a terrific facilitator and defender… Darryn was as important as any recruit we have recruited in recent memory.”
