Bill Self has proved an injury update on KansasKJ Adams ahead of their showdown with Kansas State on Saturday afternoon.

“KJ Adams is out tomorrow. He separated his shoulder, per Bill Self,” Kansas reporter Michael Swain posted on X. “Adams is week to week.”

Previously, Self revealed that Adams had hurt his shoulder during his postgame press conference following the 74-57 loss at No. 2 Iowa State on Wednesday, which led him to exit the game and be unable to return after trying to check in for a few more minutes. Now, it’s evident he’ll miss a bit of time for the Jayhawks.

“Yeah, he – I don’t know how. He hurt his shoulder,” said Self, earlier in the week. “So I don’t know how significant it is or how much time he’ll miss but, you know, he obviously couldn’t go there when he came back in.”

Adams played 24 minutes in the 17-point road loss, a top 10 matchup against the Cyclones. He posted four points in making just one of his five shot attempts while also having six rebounds, four assists, a pair of steals, and a block.

Not having Adams would leave Kansas without one from their frontcourt. He is averaging 8.2 points (50% FG), 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and a block this season as a senior. That has Adams in the top five in all of their major statistical categories, including being third in rebounding, steals, and blocks. However, his overall production is down with the Jayhawks also having Hunter Dickinson and Flory Bidunga down low.

Self would like for Adams to not miss any time at all, especially in conference play now, because of this issue with his shoulder. However, he noted that, if he didn’t miss any games because of it, Kansas would be pretty fortunate, which could be putting that status in doubt going into this weekend and next week.

“I hope it’s not significant, hopefully he won’t miss time but I think we probably will be very lucky if that’s the case,” Self said.

As you can see, KJ Adams will miss at least one game, but it’s anyone’s guess how his shoulder progresses afterwards. Kansas would love to have him back sooner rather than later though.
