The magic is still alive and well in Lawrence as Kansas took a lead over Iowa State into halftime. But it wasn’t perfect, according to Jayhawks coach Lance Leipold.

After a quiet first quarter, Kansas erupted for 14 points in the second to take a 14-8 lead into the break. Jalon Daniels is putting together a solid day, going 5-for-10 for 75 yards in the air and also contributing a rushing touchdown on the ground.

Leipold seemed impressed, but noted his team still has some things to work on in the second half.

“I think we played pretty well defensively except for the drive there where they hit the deep post,” Leipold told ESPN’s Lauren Sisler. “Played hard, executing. We probably could’ve executed that two-minute a little bit better. But love the way we’re playing. We’re playing hard, but they’re a good football team.”

Kansas QB Jalon Daniels shares key to success against Iowa State

The Kansas Jayhawks have been the surprise of the college football season so far. KU is undefeated at 4-0 with the No. 4 offense thus far at 48.5 points per game. After their best start to a season since 2009, Iowa State was next on the docket on Saturday.

Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels joined SportsCenter to talk about his team’s start and their game against the Cyclones. He said the biggest thing during their start to Big 12 play will be ensuring that they continue to dictate how they play.

“Just playing our game. We can’t switch up because of the team that we’re going against,” Daniels said. “We just have to keep going in with that confidence we’ve been going in with every single week. Don’t change how we play because of somebody else. At the end of the day, we want to be able to make teams react to us.”
