The Kansas Jayhawks’ hopes of finishing the season undefeated and their current five-game win streak was ended on Saturday by the TCU Horned Frogs. The horn frogs came into Lawrence, KS, and eked out a 38-31 victory on the road. To add insult to injury for the Jayhawks, starting quarterback Jalon Daniels was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury. After the game, Kansas head coach Lance Leipold provided an update on his starting quarterback status.

“It’s his shoulder, and it’s still under evaluation. I just got done doing radio,” said Leipold. “That’s all I was told; he was done for the day, and that’s it. I’m sure the next 48 hours will help us go from there.”

Daniels left the game with 48 seconds left in the first half or sing The Jayhawks to turn to redshirt senior Jason Bean. And Bean did not disappoint for Kansas in the second half. The senior finished the game 16 of 24, passing for 262 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. The Achilles heel for The Jayhawks against the horned frogs was in penalty yards. Kansas had five penalties for 45 yards, and a few of the penalties were untimely stalling potential scoring drives.

Kansas must now turn their attention to the future and next Saturday’s matchup when they travel to Norman, OK, to take on the Oklahoma Sooners. After starting the season 3-0, the Sooners are reeling, losing three straight Big 12 conference games. In this new day and age for Kansas football, the Oklahoma Sooners might be the perfect pick-me-up game the Jayhawks need to bounce back from Saturday’s loss. Fingers crossed on whether Daniels will be able to suit up. But if not, Bean looks more than capable of leading Kansas to victory.

Kansas QB Jalon Daniels ruled out with shoulder injury

Daniels suffered a shoulder injury late in the second quarter of the game and would not return to action after being evaluated by the team. The last update from the FOX Sports crew came just as the third quarter was starting.

“I spoke to Lance Leipold at the half. He has not completely ruled out his quarterback from returning,” FOX Sports’ Allison Williams said after the halftime break. “He said he is still being evaluated in the locker room and said it’s about a 50/50 chance that Jalon Daniels can return to this ballgame. It will be Jason Bean to start the second half.”

Daniels rolled to his right before being tackled into the sideline by TCU linebacker Jamoi Hodge. Daniels remained on the ground for a brief period of time and then walked off the field under his own power, guided to the locker room by the Jayhawks’ medical team.

“The pain was evident on Jalon Daniels’ face as he made his way to the injury table there,” Williams said late in the second quarter. “Tears welling in his eyes and grimace across his face. Some signs of frustration and disappointment with that injury as well. I heard him pounding on the table there with that left hand while he was being attended to.”

Coming into this game, Daniels was one of the most popular players in all of college football. Through five games, Daniels had thrown for 983 yards and 11 touchdowns, while also adding 329 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
