Jalon Daniels suffered a shoulder injury during Saturday’s loss to TCU, keeping him out for the majority of the game. Earlier on Tuesday, Kansas head coach Lane Leipold said the quarterback would be “doubtful” heading into Oklahoma. Now, the bad news regarding Daniels keeps on coming for the Jayhawks.

Since this original report, Daniels has disputed he is out for the season. A statement was made by the Lawrence Journal-World, stating the reporting was not properly vetted by their channels

According to Zac Boyer of the Lawrence Journal-World, Daniels will miss the remainder of the season. It’s a Grade 3 separation in his right shoulder, putting an end to what has been a magical start to the year for Daniels. Jason Bean will take over for Kansas.

“Kansas QB Jalon Daniels is expected to miss the rest of the season with a Grade 3 separation of his right shoulder, per sources,” Boyer said. “It’s a tough blow for Daniels, who was opening a lot of eyes nationally for his (and the Jayhawks’) start. It’s Jason Bean’s team now.”

Kansas has sported one of the top offenses in the country, with Daniels being a huge reason why. He’s been a threat both in the passing game and on the ground, having 1,413 total yards through six games. Daniels has 11 passing and five rushing touchdowns, with 10 total coming against Duke and Houston combined.

With Bean taking over the offense, there is still a familiar face at quarterback. He performed well once taking over for Daniels against TCU, completing 66.7% of his throws. Bean added 262 passing yards, four touchdowns, and an interception. Even in a loss, it’s a quality performance for the former backup.

The Jayhawks find themselves with five wins already on the season, just one away from bowl eligibility. Saturday against Oklahoma could be the clincher and that would take Kansas to the postseason for the first time since 2008. Leipold has completely turned the program around in just his second season.
