Seth Greenberg admonishes Hunter Dickinson for Flagrant 2, backs officials
Kansas had to spend a good chunk of the second half against Duke without their best player, Hunter Dickinson. A Flagrant 2 was called on the KU big man, ejecting him from the game. Dickinson saw his foot make contact with the head of Maliq Brown and after review, received the Flagrant 2.
ESPN’s Seth Greenberg gave his opinion on the sequence, agreeing with the call. Greenberg does believe there was intent from Dickinson after an initial foul was made.
“He got fouled and it’s a Flagrant 2,” Greenberg said. “What was his intent? You see him roll over and the foot came down. I mean, that is intent right there. That’s just the way it is.”
In the middle of his thoughts, a replay came onto the screen. Greenberg did have positive things to say about Dickinson and admitted he cannot get into the Kansas star’s mind. But seeing how the leg swung down to Brown’s face, the decision was the right one in his opinion.

“I like Hunter Dickinson, I think he’s good for college basketball. He’s competitive, he’s had an incredible career. But in that moment in time, you got to remain poised. It was a tough, physical game, it was a hard foul, both guys fall to the ground, but you can see his leg… To me and to the officials, it looked like there was an intent. That is a Flagrant 2.”
Kansas wound up surviving without Dickinson, squeaking out a three-point win against Duke. It’s been a brutal schedule early in the year for Bill Self but his team has pulled through every time. The Jayhawks are now 6-0 and the undisputed No. 1 team in the country.
Dickinson will be back out on the court next time Kansas plays. Allen Fieldhouse will welcome Furman on Saturday evening, a potentially lighter game for them. Not his best moment but Dickinson will continue to play a big role as the season progresses in Lawrence.
