After originally committing to Memphis out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, RB Leshon Williams will instead now be at Kansas.

Williams shared his decision to flip from the Tigers to the Jayhawks on social media on Monday.

Williams entered the transfer portal back at the start of October. After interest and visits in the SEC, Big Ten, and AAC, he then committed to Memphis last week on November 26th. However, less than a week later, he has flipped that pledge to Kansas, which he made a visit to back during the week of November 19th.

Williams spent the first five years of his collegiate career at Iowa. He redshirted as a freshman and had since appeared in 32 games, 13 of which were starts in 2022 and 2023, over the last four seasons for the Hawkeyes. In those outings, he had posted 319 carries for 1,324 yards and three touchdowns. That included his career-best year in ’23 as their leading rusher with 170 carries for 821 yards and a score, which earned him honors as an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention.

Although dealing with a leg injury over this year, Williams entered the season with preseason interest, including making the watchlist for the Doak Walker Award. Williams rushed 11 times for 21 yards over three games, though, in comparison to the offense’s leading rusher in Kaleb Johnson, before leaving the team early on in the season. He did depart with a bachelor’s degree after graduating back in the spring.

Per the current ratings in On3’s 2025 College Football Top Transfer Portal Players, Williams is the No. 18 overall transfer and the No. 1 RB. Still, that’s with a week before the portal officially opens on December 9th.

With the end of the career of Devin Neal in Lawrence, Williams could now be a back to help replace his production next season at Kansas.
