Kansas guard Zeke Mayo shares threatening, racist DMs after loss to Texas Tech

After Kansas’ loss to Texas Tech Saturday in the final seconds, Zeke Mayo shared DMs he received on social media. The screenshots showed apparent threats and racist comments.
Mayo had a rough showing as Kansas fell 78-73 at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. He had five points on just 1-of-7 shooting, and he had a three-pointer fall short as time was running out on the home loss, which dropped KU to 19-10 overall and 10-8 in Big 12 play.
Following the game, Mayo received DMs on Instagram. He shared screenshots on social media and acknowledged his performance in Saturday’s game, as well as the work he puts in to be the best he can be.

“I 100% deserve all the criticism in the world,” Zeke Mayo wrote. “My performance was beyond pitiful today, and has been for a while now. I work my ass off everyday to be great, but I can’t be perfect all the time. I’m sorry to our fans and my teammates, I will continue to get better.”
One of the key plays late in Saturday’s game was a controversial foul call that eventually led to a fan throwing a water bottle onto the court. Texas Tech guard Elijah Hawkins caught an inbound pass, and the referees called a foul on Kansas’ Rylan Griffen on the play. However, there were questions about whether it warranted a whistle.

After the game, Bill Self told reporters he didn’t think it was a foul. However, he also noted Kansas couldn’t “bitch about the call.”
How it happened: Texas Tech defeats Kansas
J.T. Toppin led the charge for Texas Tech to pull off the victory in Lawrence. He had 21 points while shooting 9-of-15 from the field and also added five rebounds. Christian Anderson came off the bench and added 15 points while Darrion Williams had 14 to go with nine rebounds and four assists.
On the Kansas side, K.J. Adams led the Jayhawks with 21 points on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting while adding 13 rebounds for a double-double. Hunter Dickinson also had 18 points and nine boards, and Griffen had 11 points on the day.
Kansas will now turn its attention to a tough final two games to close out the regular season. The Jayhawks will head to Houston on Monday to take on the No. 4-ranked Cougars and will return home to The Phog for the season finale against No. 22 Arizona March 8. From there, it’s time for the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.
