4-star Dai Dai Ames commits to Kansas State
Class of 2023 four-star point guard Dai Dai Ames has committed to Kansas State, he told On3.
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound prospect out of Chicago (Ill.) Kenwood Academy chose the Wildcats over Marquette, Illinois, Arizona State, and others. He is Kansas State’s first commitment to the 2023 class.
Ames ranks as the No. 60 prospect in the 2023 class according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also ranked as the No. 10 point guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois.
This summer, Ames is averaging 18.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 steals per game for Mac Irvin Fire (IL) on the EYBL Circuit. He’s also shooting 47% from the field and 35% from three.

Ames talks commitment to Kansas State
“I chose Kansas State because the coaches were honest with me and I believe they’re going to get me ready for the next level,” Ames said to On3. “I believe I can grow to love the school and the school can grow to love me.”
Ames’ relationship with head coach Jerome Tang was key in his decision.
“Me and Coach (Jerome) Tang have a great relationship,” Ames continued. “He was recruiting me at Baylor and when he got the Kansas State job on Sunday, Monday morning he called and offered me. When I told him I was committing, he asked me who would I want to come to Kansas State to help the program and that shows he trust me and were all a family.”
Newcomers to K-State in 2022
In his first year under the helm, Jerome Tang brought in nine newcomers. Those new faces include:
