The Wildcats are the favorites to land Johnson, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but they have added some stiff competition in the last few weeks — most notably Oregon.
Kansas State has a 63.0% chance of landing Johnson, which is good, but not as high as the 85.4% it was about a month ago.
The Ducks are in second at 28.3%.
The On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — has Johnson as the No. 229 overall recruit and No. 12 quarterback in the 2023 cycle.

But that ranking may soon go higher and higher. Johnson was named as one of 10 ascending prospects from this past spring by On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power.
“Avery Johnson has been viewed as one of, if not the most athletic quarterback prospect in the cycle for some time,” Power said. “The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is an explosive athlete who stacks up well with top wide receiver and defensive back prospects in that regard. He lands in this group due to strides he showed as a passer at the Elite 11’s Nashville regional last month. Johnson’s performance was the best we’ve seen him throw in similar settings over the past few years. The ball came out of his hand cleanly and he looks to have added some velocity, as well.”
He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $111k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
