A stat correction from the NCAA erased the record-setting day for Kansas State defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah on Saturday against TCU. It was previously reported that Anudike-Uzomah finished with six sacks, which tied the NCAA record.

However, the NCAA later ruled that two of his sacks did not count because they resulted in fumbles that went beyond the line of scrimmage. By rule, those plays must be counted as rushed by the quarterback. His four sacks on the day still tied the single-game record at Kansas State, set by Chris Johnson in 2000.

Only three players in Division I have had six sacks, including longtime NFL star Elvis Dumervil.

Anudike-Uzomah helped the Wildcats to a 31-12 win that marked their second conference victory of 2021. His two forced fumbles marked the only turnovers of the game for the Horned Frogs.

The scary part is that the sophomore from Kansas City could only be getting better. At least that’s what Wildcats coach Chris Klieman said postgame.

“How could you not be excited for the kid?” Klieman said. “He set all sorts of records today, and every single one of them was critical play in a tight ballgame. Felix earns it. He works his tail off every single day.”

The victory marked the second straight for Kansas State, which began Big 12 play with a brutal stretch against Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Iowa State. With those tough games out of the way, the Wildcats are looking toward a much stronger back half of the season.

They’ll have a good chance to extend their winning streak to three games when they take on in-state rival Kansas next Saturday. The Jayhawks have managed a mere two conference victories over the past five seasons.

Although the disappointing stat correction from the NCAA wiped away Anudike-Uzomah’s record, the important thing is the victory is still intact for Kansas State. With many games left to play in a Wildcat uniform, there are sure to be plenty of memorable performances to come.

“Stay hungry and keep doing what I’m doing in practice, honestly,” Anudike-Uzomah said. “This is one game. It’s not the end of the season. I need to work hard and work on technique so I can pile on and pile on.”
