Texas freshman Dee Kennedy has committed to Kansas State, he announced via social media. He entered the portal June 28 after one season with the Longhorns, and is now on his way to Manhattan.

Kennedy made 52 appearances this past season, including 40 starts. He ended the year with a .209 batting average to go with four home runs and 17 RBI during his lone year in Austin.

Kennedy was a two-sport athlete at Prestonwood Christian (Tx.) High School, playing football and baseball. He ultimately chose baseball after becoming an All-State infielder and hitting .438 during his high school career before committing to Texas.

“To a new beginning,” Kennedy wrote in his post. “Ready to see what my next chapter holds for me. I’m so excited to be part of the Kansas State baseball team. Thank you, Longhorn Nation, for everything.”

Kansas State put together an impressive 2024 season en route to its second-ever Super Regional appearance. The Wildcats went 35-26 overall, including 15-15 in Big 12 play, before falling to Virginia in a two-game sweep during the Charlottesville Super Regional. It was K-State’s first Regional title since 2013.

Now, the Wildcats are getting a high-upside infielder in Dee Kennedy, who was one of the Texas players to enter the portal after the coaching change in Austin. David Pierce is out and Jim Schlossnagle is in after a high-profile coaching search. The former Texas A&M coach led the Aggies to a College World Series appearance for the second time in his three years in College Station, but is now settling in as the Longhorns’ head coach.

Kansas State also received a commitment from former Quinnipac outfielder Keegan O’Connor last week. He spent three years with the Bobcats and is coming off back-to-back seasons with an over .300 batting average. In 2024, O’Connor hit .325 with 11 home runs and 48 RBI, but put together his best year in 2023. That’s when he hit .342 with 13 home runs and 60 RBI – setting career highs in all three categories.

The transfer portal opened for baseball after the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament and is set to close Tuesday night. That’s the deadline for players to inform their athletics departments of their intention to transfer. Names could still show up in the portal up to 48 hours after the window closes.
