Four-star shooting guard RJ Jones commits to Kansas State
Class of 2023 four-star prospect RJ Jones has committed to Kansas State, he tells On3.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound shooting guard from Denton, Texas chose the Wildcats over Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M, California, Notre Dame, and others.
Jones is the No. 79 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 16 shooting guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Utah. It should be noted that Jones will play his senior season at powerhouse Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah.
The Texas native becomes Kansas State’s second commitment to the 2023 class, joining four-star point guard Dai Dai Ames.

Jones on his commitment to Kansas State
“I chose Kansas State because there is an opportunity to come in as a freshman and earn meaningful playing time, be a part of a great situation, and help elevate this program in search of a National Championship early,” Jones said to On3.
What type of player is Kansas State getting in RJ Jones?
“Coach Tang’s program and the fans in Manhattan will be getting an ultra-competitive player with a winning mentality,” Jones said. “I will do what it takes to elevate myself and my teammates while holding myself and others accountable with the common goal in mind.”
Jones has a message for Kansas State fans.
“K-State fans, I can’t wait to join you in the Octagon of Doom and ELEVATE TOGETHER. And, I can’t wait to meet and play in front of you guys! EMAW!!!”
Scouting Summary
“RJ Jones is a scorer at his core. Standing around 6-3 he has deep range with a quick-trigger, and the utmost confidence in his jumper. The floor vision/shot selection can be questioned at times and the defense is up and down, but there is no fear here in taking the big shot. Jones needs to continue working on his body, and with that more athleticism/pop could be on the way. Has a solid east-west handle in the half court, could be a secondary initiator in time, at the next level.”
