With Nebraska having a head coach opening, coaches from across the country have been linked to the job. One of those is Kansas State‘s Chris Klieman, who has been having success with the Wildcats since moving from North Dakota State.

Klieman was asked about being connected with the Nebraska opening and shot down the possibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to the program and cited his relationship with Kansas State athletic director Gene Taylor as a big reason.

“Gene Taylor,” Klieman said via On3’s Kansas State Online. “Gene’s my guy. I love Kansas State. I love being here.”

In three complete seasons in Manhattan, Klieman has led the Wildcats to two bowl games, having a 1-1 record. The shortened 2020 season is his only losing one and has a 22-14 overall record.

Two games into this season and Kansas State sports a 2-0 record. Wins have come at an impressive clip against South Dakota and Missouri. Tulane is next on the schedule before Big 12 play begins with Oklahoma on Sept. 24.

Based on his comments, those upcoming games seem to be the only thing on Klieman’s mind. At the first time of asking, he stated his commitment to the Kansas State program and will hope to continue to grow in the following years.

Chris Klieman among candidates for Nebraska job

Nebraska has an open job, with athletic director Trev Alberts deciding to fire Scott Frost on Sunday afternoon. Just when it seemed as if things could not get worse in Lincoln, Frost continually showed why they could. Saturday’s loss to Georgia Southern was the final nail in the coffin, meaning the Cornhuskers now have a coaching search on hand.

Plenty of names have already been linked with the job. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic was the latest to provide a list of potential candidates. Ten different names were mentioned, with only two having Big Ten connections. The Big 12 is highly represented here, having multiple current and former coaches named.
