Q&A with Kansas State signee 4-star PG David Castillo
David Castillo is Kansas State’s lone member in the 2024 recruiting class, but he’s an important one. Ranked 50th in the On3 Industry Ranking, the 6-foot-1 point guard committed to Jerome Tang last April, and signed during the early period in November.
Castillo, an Oklahoma native, chose the Wildcats over Kansas and Oklahoma State. I caught up with the Sunrise Christian (KS) senior to learn more about his decision, his relationship with the staff, and more.

Q&A with Castillo
What’s your relationship like with the coaching staff and how has it grown since you committed?
It’s grown tremendously. That staff is an amazing staff. Best staff I’ve ever seen. They just have so much energy and so much joy in everything that they do. Their passion is passed on to the players. Our relationship has grown so much since I’ve committed. They trust me, and I trust them.
Besides the coaching staff, what was it about Kansas State that made you want to play there?
Definately the culture. The fan culture too. The fans are insane. I think we have the best fans in the world. They bleed purple, literally. It’s an amazing environment to play in. They’re so passionate about their school. It’s amazing.
What type of player is Kansas State getting in you?
Just an all-around guard. Playmake, shooting, leadership. Just a really good guard. I just want to help them win a National Championship.
What’s a message you have for Kansas State fans?
They’re getting a good one, they’re getting a good one.
Scouting Report
“David Castillo is a consummate leader on the floor. He takes care of the ball as the lead guard and can knock down shots consistently, with range. While his game is not as dynamic as other guards, his value lies in making basketball plays and enhancing the play of those around him. He is a sturdy guard. The shooting is real so there is comfort with him off the ball as well, in multi-guard line-ups. He understands positioning on defense and gives good effort on that end. Long term you wonder about the height and the explosive pop, but there are a lot of winning attributes that he will carry with him to college.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
About David Castillo
David Castillo already has two gold medals on his resume after winning the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and 2022 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup with the USA Basketball National Team. Castillo eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in his first two seasons at Bartlesville (Oklahoma) High School. As a sophomore, he was named a first-team all-state selection after averaging 24.7 points and 5.4 points. As a freshman, he averaged 23.7 points, which was the most by anyone at Bartlesville since 20025. In the summer Castillo plays AAU for Oklahoma’s Team Griffin. “I get all my teammates involved, and I really think I can make my teammates better,” Castillo told On3’s Joe Tipton. “I think I have a really good shooting ability, especially off the pick-and-roll. I’d say I’m a three-level scorer, able to play in the mid-range area, floaters. I think I’m a fast player, too. Up and down. I can push in transition and make plays. I’m really just an all-around point guard.”
