Report: Kansas State LB Alec Marenco injured in head-on crash
A member of the Kansas State football team was injured during a head-on crash Wednesday morning, according to WIBW.
Kansas State linebacker Alec Marenco was injured in a car accident on Wednesday, WIBW reports. Marenco was taken to a local hospital after the crash, per the news station.
Alec Marenco is a senior linebacker for the Wildcats who transferred in from New Mexico this offseason. He has appeared in one game for Kansas State in 2024.
The Texas native started 13 games during his time at New Mexico, finishing with 96 tackles across 27 games. According to WIBW, the injuries aren’t considered to be life-threatening.
Alec Marenco was driving a 2019 GMC Sierra Wednesday morning when a 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossed the center line and crashed into Marenco, per WIBW. The accident was reported at 6:17 a.m., per the news station.
Marenco was taken to the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan for treatment, per WIBW.
Kansas State is 7-2 (4-2) on the season with three regular season games remaining. The Wildcats had a bye last week and are now set to host Arizona State on Saturday.
Chris Klieman’s club entered the bye week off of a disappointing loss to Houston. The Wildcats fell 24-19 on the road for their second Big 12 loss of the season.

Kansas State is currently tied for third in the Big 12 with a 4-2 record. Joining the Wildcats at 4-2 are Iowa State, Arizona State and West Virginia.
BYU is alone atop the Big 12 standings at 6-0, while Deion Sanders and Colorado are in sole possession of second place at 5-1. Those two teams will play for the league championship if they win out.
In addition to hosting Arizona State, Kansas State also has games remaining against Cincinnati and Iowa State. The Wildcats will host the Bearcats before closing out the regular season in Ames against Iowa State.
Kickoff for Saturday’s game against Arizona State is scheduled for 7 p.m. E.T. The game will be televised by ESPN.
