Kansas State makes history for most points as unranked team against top 10 opponent vs Texas
History was made on Tuesday night in Austin, TX, but not any kind Texas Longhorn fans will want to remember any time soon. The No. 6 ranked team in the country played host to unranked Kansas State, hoping to begin Big 12 play with two consecutive wins. Things did not go according to plan.
Kansas State was able to win a track meet in impressive fashion, leaving the Moody Center with a 116-103 victory. It’s the most points an unranked team has ever scored in a road win against a top-10 opponent.
“Another great Kansas State stat from @ESPNStatsInfo: The 116 points they scored tonight at Texas are the most that an unranked team has EVER scored in a road win over a top-10 opponent,” ESPN’s Jeff Borzello said via Twitter.
Triple digits have not been too far off from Kansas State this season, getting 90+ three different times. Incarnate Word was on the receiving end of 98 points in a nonconference showdown. A huge statement was made against one of the country’s best teams by new head coach Jermone Tang.
All five Wildcat starters were in double figures, with Markquis Nowell leading the way with 36 points and nine assists. Keyontae Johnson was not too far behind, dropping 28 points on 10 of 16 shooting.

Kansas State as a team shot 60% from the field and made all but two of their 33 free throw attempts. All around, quite an impressive offensive performance.
Texas wasn’t too shabby either, still getting over 100 themselves. Tyrese Hunter and Marcus Carr were dominant scoring, as usual, going for 29 and 27 respectively.
However, you cannot say the same about the defense Texas played at home tonight. It’s the first loss since head coach Chris Beard left the team. There will be time to regroup but the Longhorns have things to work on before facing Oklahoma State on Saturday.
