Kennesaw State coach Brian Bohannon denies stepping down, says he was fired

Brian Bohannon took to Twitter on Sunday to explain what happened this morning with his former job at Kennesaw State.
In the tweet, Bohannon said that the Owls’ athletic director let him know earlier today that they’d be changing head coaches. He did so to state that he did not step down from the role himself.
“This morning I was informed directly from AD Overton that he was making a change in leadership. Contrary to what’s been reported, I want to be clear that I did not step down from my position as head football coach at Kennesaw State University,” Bohannon tweeted. “Since we started the football program, I have had the pleasure of coaching and working alongside so many great people. I appreciate your hard work and dedication to this program.”
This contradicts the release and headlines surrounding the move which said that Bohannon had stepped down.
Kennesaw State is 1-9 overall this season in their first year in the FBS. That’s the worst overall record in Conference USA with them being one loss shy of the worst record during conference play in the league. The eight defeats have come by an average margin of 17.6 points. Oddly enough, though, the one win was a 27-24 victory in an upset of Liberty when they were four-score underdogs at home.

Prior to this season, Bohannon had a 71-30 there while in the FCS. It made him one of the best coaches and the Owls into one of the best programs at the level and in the Big South.
Per On3’s Pete Nakos, Bohannon will now receive a buyout of $605,333. Kennesaw State will then begin a search for their next head coach with Chandler Burks, a co-offensive coordinator on staff, set to be their interim for the final three games.
It’s uncertain how this decision exactly came to be now with this from Bohannon. All that is is that there’ll be a new coach at Kennesaw State because of it.
