2024 three-star EDGE Caleb Redd commits to Kentucky
St. Louis (Mo.) DeSmet three-star EDGE Caleb Redd took two official visits this month: a trip to Kentucky the weekend of June 16 and a visit to Kansas State last weekend. His recruitment ultimately came down to both Wildcats’ programs.
On Wednesday, he announced for the SEC school in Lexington.
“It was very close. Me and my brother had multiple sit-downs trying to figure out what was the best place for me,” he told On3. “We really decided that both were good options. But I chose Kentucky because they’ve been there with me since the start. Every time I go down there, it feels like home. They’ve treated me and my family well, and I know it’s a good program.”
Kentucky was one of the earliest schools to offer the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder, whom they see as an outside linebacker capable of rushing the passer, making plays on the edge and potentially even dropping into coverage. Assistant coach Frank Buffano led the charge in Redd’s recruitment.
“Me and Coach Buffano are really close. We talk pretty much every week since he started recruiting me.”
Official visit helped seal the deal for Caleb Redd
Redd had been down to Lexington twice before, but his visit earlier this month allowed him a chance to see things in a different light.
“The OV just let me hang out with the players more, hear what they think and learn how they’re being treated. They’re happy to be on campus, and I like to see that.

… I love the environment, and the players treated me nice when I was down there. I love the coaching staff, and they’ve got a great idea of where they want the program to be headed. And it actually just feels like home.”
Redd is equally excited about where head coach Mark Stoops has the program headed and believes the Wildcats will be contenders in the SEC for years to come.
“He’s an amazing coach, and he knows what he’s doing down there. He has the plan, and he just needs some of the players to help him reach that goal. … Since I was young, I always wanted to play in the SEC. My dad, he’s a big SEC fan so that’s a good feeling. Now I can just relax and put more work in to be ready for when I get there.”
Redd is the nation’s No. 64 EDGE, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
