After taking official visits to West Virginia and South Florida in June, Lorenzo Cowan took an official visit to Kentucky over the weekend and that ended his recruitment. Heading into the weekend the Wildcats were the favorite and coming out of it, Cowan is on their commitment list.

“I have known it was going to be Kentucky for a few weeks,” Cowan told On3. “It was just time to go ahead and commit. I have been there before and after weighing out the pros and cons, nothing trumped how I felt about Kentucky.

“Coach Chris Collins and Brad White have been recruiting me hard for about a year. Kentucky was the second school to offer me. I am a big man of loyalty and the coaches at Kentucky were very loyal to me. That meant something to me. Those relationships and bonds stayed with me and my gut told me Kentucky was the right school for me.”

Not only does Cowan have bonds with the coaches, but the 6-foot-3, 215-pound EDGE out of Savannah (Ga.) Jenkins will get to play with his brother in the SEC. Tavion Gadson signed with the Wildcats in 2023 and the two will play together again on the next level.

“Tavion was a factor, and he played a big role in this decision. We talk every day and he loves it up there. He is familiar with how they train, what they do, how a regular day goes and we get to be on the same team again. We lived in the same house, we played high school ball together and now we will be together at Kentucky. It is great for us and it will allow our mom to see us play on the same team at the same school.”

The decision wasn’t easy, but the No. 49 EDGE in the country feels good about being a Wildcat.

“The other schools on my list were great. They gave me a lot to like. But the bonds I created with everyone on the staff, having my brother there, the feeling I have in Lexington and how comfortable I feel around the town made this decision right.”

The connections in Lexington are strong for Cowan

His brother is there. A connection doesn’t get much stronger than that. But the bonds Cowan has with the staff makes him feel very comfortable in Lexington.

“I have been there four or five times and it just feels right,” Cowan said. “Coach Collins is the area recruiter for Kentucky, so he recruited my brother too. Our relationship is strong. We trust him and it is hard to describe our relationship. My whole family loves Coach Collins.

“Then Coach White. He is going to be the coach I spend the most time with when I get there. He is a great coach with a lot of experience and he leads the defense in the best conference in America. The way these coaches recruited me, how they got to know me and how I trust them helped with my decision.”

Cowan’s best relationships are with Collins and White, but he likes Mark Stoops too. He is a believer in the head coach.

“Coach Stoops has the program going in the right direction. He is getting top recruits, he is very consistent on the field and he continues to build the program. Coach Stoops have Kentucky playing at a high level of play. Kentucky competes, they play hard and I am excited about competing in the SEC.”
