Barion Brown injury update: Kentucky WR going to hospital for CT scans, out vs. Tennessee
Kentucky wideout Barion Brown is out for the remainder of the game against Tennessee, according to the SEC Network broadcast. Brown was reportedly taken to a UT Medical Center for precautionary CT scans.
Sideline reporter Tori Petry relayed early in the second half that Brown’s X rays for an apparent rib injury had come back negative, causing Wildcats medical staff to want further scans to see what’s happening. While X rays are useful for visualizing and diagnosing orthopedic injuries, they can’t image soft tissue, which a CT scan can.
And while he wouldn’t actually be the first SEC player to go from hospital to back in the game this season, Brown is reportedly done for the day, according to Petry.
According to the SEC Network broadcast, Brown was being taken to the locker room in the first half to get his ribs iced, among other treatment.
Brown initially came up slow after he took a play for a solid gain and was tackled by a throng of Tennessee defenders and was at the bottom of a pile with several big bodies landing on top of him.
He made it to the sideline and was seen going to the medical tent with assistance from Kentucky staff.

Kentucky later lost its starting QB
Quarterback Brock Vandagriff was questionable to return in the second half vs. Tennessee with a head injury, according to the SEC Network broadcast. Vandagriff suffered the injury on a strip sack in the third quarter that set up Tennessee’s go-ahead score.
Vandagriff was taken to the sideline injury tent where he was getting evaluated further, according to sideline reporter Tori Petry. After a few minutes of attention in the tent, Vandagriff was seen walking, unsteadily, to the locker room with a towel over his head and the assistance of trainers.
In his stead, Kentucky went to backup Gavin Wimsatt, down 14-10. In the final minutes of the third quarter, with Wimsatt in, he threw an interception that set up Tennessee in the red zone.
Shortly after, Tennessee took a 21-10 lead.
Vandagriff finished his day 10-for-17 passing for 123 yards and one touchdown and an interception. He also had nine carries for 14 net yards, including sacks, and his lost fumble on his final play.
