Kentucky quarterback Brock Vandagriff left this past weekend against Tennessee with a head injury, and it’s unknown what his status is heading into the bye week. Wildcats coach Mark Stoops did not provide any answers in his Wednesday press conference, shutting down any questions about the QB’s health.

“I don’t want to comment on it,” he said.

Vandagriff exited the game in the third quarter and finished 10-of-17 passing for 123 yards, a touchdown and one interception. Pressed on whether the quarterback was making progress with the injury, Stoops was again brief.

“Yes, he is,” the coach said.

Gavin Wimsatt entered the game in place of the injured Vandagriff and finished 4-of-10 passing for 69 yards and a touchdown to one interception. Stoops praised Vandagriff for the job that he did while he was in the game as Kentucky held a 10-7 lead over the Volunteers at halftime.

“I thought Brock was really having a good game,” Stoops said. “So, obviously his health is most important. Getting him healthy right now is the main thing.”

A transfer from Georgia, Vandagriff took over the starting job this season after the graduation of Devin Leary. He has not been particularly good, even getting benched the week before in a 24-10 loss to Auburn.

Vandagriff has 1,359 yards passing and only seven touchdowns to six interceptions this season. However, it seems Stoops may want to stick with him after Wimsatt didn’t look much better in the loss to the Tigers.

However, the coach might not have a choice depending on what the injury situation is with Brock Vandagriff. His status will certainly be worth monitoring throughout the next couple of week before Kentucky faces Murray State on Nov. 16.
