Devin Leary shares where he stands in his injury recovery
NC State quarterback transfer Devin Leary is recovering from a torn pectoral muscle, undergoing treatment at his new school: Kentucky.
It’s unclear whether Leary will be recovered enough to participate in spring practice, and he dodged a question to that effect on Wednesday while updating his status to local reporters.
“It’s going really well, really well,” Leary said. “Just progressing each and every day, getting better and better every day. Really working hard with (director of sports medicine and head athletic trainer for football) Gabe (Amponsah) and that training staff in there. The whole strength and conditioning staff is doing a wonderful job with me. Just day by day continuing to get better and better.”
Leary’s 2022 campaign was cut short when he was diagnosed with a torn pectoral muscle midway through the season.
He was, however, one of the top quarterbacks in the country in 2021. During that season at NC State he went 283-of-431 passing for 3,433 yards, throwing 35 touchdown passes and just five interceptions.

Many hailed him as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate going into 2022. That obviously didn’t quite pan out.
Devin Leary injury recovery on positive track
Should Leary make a full recovery from his torn pectoral muscle, he’s the obvious favorite to win the starting quarterback job at Kentucky.
He’s got considerable experience already, and veteran Will Levis is off to the NFL Draft.
Much like his injury recovery, though, Devin Leary isn’t getting ahead of himself. He’s simply taking everything step by step for now.
“It’s just day by day for now. Every single day I’m getting better and better,” he said. “It’s been a positive incline. Really just learning up and going off the doctor’s word of how I can progress. I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback back and I feel great, so I’m just looking forward to it.”
