Kentucky is reportedly once again looking for another quarterback out of the transfer portal.

Per sources according to Matt Zenitz, the Wildcats will be hosting Duke’s Maalik Murphy over the next two days to start this week off in Lexington.

“Former Duke and Texas QB Maalik Murphy is visiting Kentucky today and tomorrow, sources tell me, @chris_hummer and @EdwardsCBS for @CBSSports/@247Sports,” Zenitz tweeted this morning.

KSR’s Nick Roush and Zack Geoghegan also noted Murphy, as well as Incarnate Word’s Zach Calzada, earlier today as portal targets at quarterback for UK. This comes after several seasons of transfers at the position for the program including Terry Wilson, Will Levis, Devin Leary, and Brock Vandagriff.

Murphy spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career at Texas and then Duke. Following two seasons as a backup with seven appearances, including a pair of starts, for the Longhorns, Murphy transferred to the Blue Devils where he was their starter this fall.

In their dozen games this season, Murphy had a record-breaking year at quarterback in Durham. He was 254-421 (60.3%) when passing for 2,933 yards, a single-season best for the program with 26 touchdowns, and a dozen interceptions. That helped Duke to a record of 9-3 overall for one of their better finishes in school history.

With that, Murphy is currently the No. 3 QB behind only Cal’s Fernando Mendoza and Florida State’s Luke Kromenhoek as well as the No. 21 overall transfer in On3’s 2025 Top Transfer Portal Players. He is currently in the Top-15 of players still available in the portal. So far, the two other teams involved in his recruitment so far have reportedly been Auburn, prior to their addition of Jackson Arnold, and Miami.

Quarterback has continued to be a question in the bluegrass as it was for almost all of last season. Vandagriff was the starter but there were also snaps there for Gavin Wimsatt, who transferred in too from Rutgers but who has since re-entered the portal again himself, as part of the offense. The depth chart then reached Cutter Boley, the former four-star and true freshman from in-state, by the end of the fall.

Now, Murphy could end up being the next and latest transfer quarterback to come to Kentucky depending on the next two days.
