For years, Florida dominated Kentucky in an early SEC East showdown. While it might not be the biggest rivalry for either team, getting a win over one another was important to kick the year off correctly. The Gators experienced that for a long time.

But recently, Mark Stoops has Big Blue Nation on top. Kentucky has won two matchups in a row, both in Lexington and Gainesville. Stoops continually talks about taking the next steps as a program and at the time, beating Florida was one of those. Mission accomplished.

For Kentucky EDGE JJ Weaver, he would love to add to the winning streak, making it three in a row against Florida. He said as the Wildcats get their goals together for the season, taking down the Gators is always one of them.

The past two seasons, that has been accomplished. Doing so again in 2023 would be another check marked for a critical year.

“It would be good,” Weaver said at SEC Media Days. “We getting to our goals, accomplished the goals we always set every other year. Beating Florida, we’re going to feel accomplished to the goals we set to ourselves.”

To find the last time Kentucky won three straight against Florida, you would have to go to 1951. Bear Bryant won four in a row against the Gators, with three of them being blowout wins. There are not too many other UK win streaks when you look at the series history, especially when it became an annual matchup in the late 1960s.

As for Weaver himself, he has had plenty of individual success against Florida. In the 2022 matchup, Weaver recorded a career-high nine tackles. Move back a season and he was able to secure an interception off of Emory Jones. Weaver really enjoys facing off against UF.

Looking ahead to the 2023 season, the Florida-Kentucky matchup will take place on Sept. 30. It will mark both teams’ fifth game of the season and second against SEC competition. A huge tone setter as both are looking to compete in the East.

We know JJ Weaver is going to be ready to go, looking to put up another stellar performance against the Gators. The goal will be to have the rest of the Kentucky team to do the same. If a win occurs in Lexington, you can make it three straight and have the program in rare territory against Florida.
