March Madness has reared its head, which means that it’s time to start doing some research on teams that are built for the gauntlet that is the NCAA Tournament.

The ESPN College GameDay panel revealed their picks for who is looked at as undervalued heading into the big dance later this month. Andraya Carter went Florida, Jay Williams picked Gonzaga and Jay Bilas chose the Creighton Blue Jays.

Seth Greenberg went with a team that everyone wants to see make a run in March — Kentucky.

“Kentucky is on the four-line right now,” Greenberg said. “You look this Kentucky team, they shoot 40 (percent) from the 3, they don’t turn it over, their back court is as dynamic is any back court in college basketball. They’ve got incredible depth, which helps when they’re in foul trouble. The speed in which they score is absolutely ridiculous.

“Now, they’ve got to improve defensively. If they just improve a little bit defensively, be a little more intentional, a little more locked in. I’m look for them to be more competitive on the defensive end. This is a Final Four team.”

ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has listed Kentucky as his top 4-seed, or his No. 13 team in the field. The Wildcats are matching up with Tennessee — a projected 1-seed (No. 2 overall) — on the road in Knoxville on Saturday. A win for Kentucky would not only set John Calipari’s squad up to claim a 3-seed — but it would give the Wildcats massive momentum heading into a double bye in Nashville next week for the SEC Tournament.

Kentucky currently ranks No. 19 in the NET rankings. They have the 18th best strength of schedule in the nation and are 5-6 in Quad 1 opportunities. They can make that an even 6-6 with a win against the Volunteers.

As Greenberg stated, it’s been hard to find a team that can out-pace the Wildcats on offense. Alabama, who averages an NCAA-high 90.7 points per game, couldn’t keep up with Kentucky during their matchup on Feb. 24. While the Crimson Tide beat their average and scored 95 points — Kentucky scored a whopping 117 points to win by a 22-point margin. They’ve gone on to score at least 91 points in every game since.

Of course, the Volunteers will be looking to play spoiler to the Wildcats and sweep the regular season series on their senior day. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET live on CBS.
