It might be July but Kentucky is the story of college basketball at the moment. Head coach John Calipari has his team participating in GLOBL Jam and is having a ton of success. Team Africa was the final opponent in pool play, marking off another win for the Wildcats.

Highlights from Saturday’s game were posted by Kentucky’s Twitter account, giving fans a video of just under six minutes, showing off some of the best moments. Hope you can get used to Antonio Reeves hitting three-point shots, making eight of them and leading UK scorers with 27 points.

Three-point shooting has been a struggle for Calipari over the years, really needing outside scoring during previous attempts at a deep NCAA Tournament run. If somebody like Reeves can see his Global Jam performances translate to the 2023-2024 season, Big Blue Nation is going to have something to be excited about.

While this is only July, an encouraging performance for Kentucky. You can check out the highlights from the 104-92 win over Team Africa.

Outside of Reeves, the performance of DJ Wagner will likely instill the most confidence in fans. He finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. For somebody who could prove to be a critical part of this upcoming Kentucky season, early positive sides from the freshman.

Wagner played high school basketball at Camden (NJ) HIgh school, where he was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. He was the No. 7 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Kentucky to play in gold medal game at GLOBL Jam

No matter what happened against Team Africa, Kentucky was going to be playing in the gold medal game. Previous wins over Germany and Canada secured the Wildcats’ spot, giving them a chance to win something before the official season even tips off.

As to who Kentucky will be playing, we do not fully know yet. Germany and Canada have a game to play, their final of pool play. The winner will advance into the gold medal game and get another shot at Calipari’s men.

Already having a win over both Germany and Canada, Kentucky will likely enter the game with a ton of confidence. Taking care of business once again will mean a trophy will be heading back on the plane to Lexington with the Wildcats from Toronto.
