Kentucky has landed a quarterback who is familiar with the SEC out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. Incarnate Word QB Zach Calzada has committed to the Wildcats after previously having stops at Auburn and Texas A&M.

Calzada had a breakout year for Incarnate Word in 2024, throwing for 3,744 yards and 35 touchdowns, with only nine interceptions. He also rushed for 332 yards and five scores.

He led the Cardinals to an 11-3 season in 2024. Now he will look to help a Kentucky program that finished 4-8 this past season.

Calzada played his high school football at Lanier in Georgia. There, he was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2019, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was also the 33rd-ranked quarterback and the 429th-ranked player overall in his recruiting cycle. He initially went to Texas A&M.

In 2019, Zach Calzada took a redshirt before the 2020 season that didn’t count toward any player’s eligibility. In 2022, he would transfer to Auburn but didn’t see any action with the Tigers before having shoulder surgery. After that, he would transfer to Incarnate Word. That means that 2025 will be his seventh season of college football.

During the 2021 season with Texas A&M, Calzada saw the most playing time he had in any individual season at the FBS level. At the time, he was playing for Jimbo Fisher. He threw for 2,185 yards and 17 touchdowns with nine interceptions for the Aggies that season.

It will be interesting to see how Zach Calzada performs in his third and final stop at the SEC level.
