Kentucky gets Texas A&M in SEC play after a win Tuesday and Jacob Toppin had initial thoughts on the Aggies.

Following the win over Georgia, the Wildcats are back in the NCAA Tournament picture, but the momentum can’t stop against Texas A&M. Toppin expected a dogfight coming Saturday.

It would be the third straight win for John Calipari and company, should the Wildcats come out on top.

“So yesterday, Coach sent all of us film from last year when we played them at Texas A&M,” Toppin said. “And we watched that. I watched it and I know they’re a really good team. They’re great players, they’re going to fight and they scramble up the game a lot. So it’s going to be a tough game for us.

“They fight like Tennessee, so it’s going to be another dogfight like Tennessee. So we just got to, like I said before, focus on today, win today and worry about them when the day comes.”

In 17 games this season, Toppin averaged 10.6 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, two assists per game and shot 41.3% from the floor.

Kentucky vs. Texas A&M: Initial Impressions

Texas A&M improved to 13-5 with a win over Florida in the team’s last game. At the very least, there is mutual respect on both ends of the floor.

“This will be the first time since we’ve lived here that we’ve played at Rupp,” Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams said. “We’re excited. Obviously, they’re playing at an incredibly high level over the last seven days and as much flack as Coach [John Calipari] gets, there should be more flowers delivered to him for the job that he does in regard to the mammoth job that Kentucky is.

“The way that he’s rallied his team, winning in Knoxville, who’s arguably one of the best teams in the country, and then the dominating performance that they had last night, so we’ll have our hands full for sure.”

The Aggies are 13-5 this season and 5-0 in SEC play. On Wednesday, they beat Florida 54-52 to keep their conference record unblemished. Texas A&M’s 52 points are a season-low, well below their 74.9 scoring average.

But Williams and company got the job done.
