Jaxson Robinson injury update: Mark Pope offers positive news from Kentucky star's surgery

Kentucky’s Jaxson Robinson underwent surgery on Wednesday for a wrist injury that ended his lone season in Lexington. With that, Mark Pope has now said the procedure yesterday was a success.
At his press conference on Thursday, Pope provided an update on Robinson’s surgery. He said that the operation went well with the specialist he saw with him returning sometime today from New York.
“Surgery was perfect,” Pope said. “I talked to him last night. He was, he was a little tired and a little irritable but he’s, he’s on his way back right now.”
With him getting back to the bluegrass today, the team is unsure if he’ll be ready to fly again with them when they leave for Missouri on Friday. That’ll be up to him depending on how he feels today and tomorrow with it being just four days or so between going to and from NYC and to and from CoMo.
“We’ll see about travel,” Pope said. “We’ll see how he feels when he gets back. So, if he feels up to it. I know he’s gonna want to be with the team every second he can, and we want him to be. And, so, I know it’s, you know, tough travel, tough 48 hours for him. We’ll see how he is once he gets here.”
Robinson tore the ECU tendon in his right wrist back on February 10th. He’d play the next day against South Carolina but would go on to miss the next four games after that before returning at Oklahoma. However, after starting and playing a dozen minutes, he apparently aggravated the issue and would not return in the second half.

Robinson then would not play their next game against Auburn and, after the loss on Saturday, Pope revealed the official diagnosis with it being a season-ending. With that, it was a college-career-ending matter for Robinson.
Robinson, the lone transfer to follow his head coach from BYU, averaged 13.0 ppg. on career-best percentages of 43.2% from the field and 37.6% from three on 2.3 triples per game. He also posted a career-high with 3.5 rebounds along with 1.7 assists. That has him second in scoring and third in three-point shooting on the season for UK. That also, despite his year being done, earned him recognition as a finalist for the Julius Erving Award. One positive of this last week for him, though, was Robinson was able to go through Senior Night on Tuesday.
“What up BBN?” Robinson said postgame on the court to a loud ovation from Rupp Arena. “I just want to take the time to shout out my teammates, my coaches, my parents, and, most of all, BBN. You guys have been there every single game. This team appreciates every amount of your support. Thank you for a great ride this year and can’t wait to finish it out in the postseason.”
Robinson will now be sidelined for the next three months recovering from the surgery. Still, it’s the first step of successfully recovering with all going very well for him yesterday per Pope.
