Saturday has gone from bad to worse for Big Blue Nation. After losing big to Auburn inside Rupp Arena, Kentucky head coach Mark Pope revealed Jaxson Robinson will be out for the rest of the season. Robinson has not been playing due to a wrist injury and his long-term health was in question.

Unfortunately, Pope gave the news nobody inside the program was hoping for as they are opting for surgery. Robinson does not have a path to play in the NCAA Tournament, looking closer to the summer for a full recovery.

“Kind of came to the conclusion last night that he’s going to get surgery,” Pope said. “So he’s going Wednesday to the world’s specialist to have surgery on his wrist… We kind of knew he was going to need surgery, he just wanted so badly to play that he rehabbed it and had an injection to try to make it functional.”

Prior to Wednesday, the last game Robinson played in was on Feb. 8 against South Carolina. As Pope mentioned, the player was attempting to get back on the court. Heading to Norman for a big-time showdown against Oklahoma, Robinson got the start.

Well, it lasted just 12 minutes. He shot three of seven from the field with seven points, an assist, and two steals. It’s the last stat line Robinson will have for the season as Kentucky will have to march through the rest of their season without him.

“Yeah, so Jax’s wrist didn’t respond great tonight, so we’ll see how that is going forward,” Pope said after the Oklahoma game. “… I think this game here, at Oklahoma, means something to Jax, too, and I think he was excited to get out here and try it.”

Robinson will finish the year averaging 13 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He was the lone guy to follow Pope from BYU to Kentucky. In a team 100% made up of transfers, Robinson was as critical as any piece on the roster.

Tuesday will be the first game Kentucky officially plays without Robinson being available. LSU is coming to Rupp Arena, a game the Wildcats will be expecting to win. The season finale in Columbia, MO will be a little more interesting as Missouri is as hot as anybody in college basketball.

From there, trips to the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament will take place with Robinson cheering his team on from the bench.
