Kentucky G Jaxson Robinson is still not doing any work with his injured right hand according to Mark Pope.

During his weekly radio show on Monday, Pope revealed Robinson, who has missed the last two games with a wrist injury, has yet to use that hand in practice. That’s even to the extent where Robinson is actually using his left hand to shoot.

“For Jax? He hasn’t, uh, he still hasn’t done anything with his right hand,” Pope shared. “He’s done a ton of left-hand shooting, um, and, probably unsurprisingly, he’s making a lot of shots left-handed. So I am actually pushing him to just, just tie up the right wrist, man, and just get that thing safe in a big cast and let’s go just play lefty on Wednesday. I’m not sure he’s, he’s prepared to do that

Robinson injured the wrist on his shooting hand at practice back on February 7th. He’d still play the following day against South Carolina, where he scored six points on a pair of made triples with five rebounds and four assists, after being a game-time decision but has not been available the past two games in a win over Tennessee and a loss this weekend at Texas. On the bench in those games, Robinson has been out of uniform and wearing a brace on that right hand.

Robinson is arguably the best overall player this season for the Wildcats. He’s averaging 13.3 points (43.2% FG, 38.1% 3PT), 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while making 2.7 threes per game. The scoring is second on the team only to Otega Oweh (16.0 ppg.).

Robinson isn’t the only injured player either for UK. Lamont Butler, their starting point guard who’s their leader in assists and steals while being third in scoring, has also missed the last game and a half or so after re-aggravating a shoulder injury of his own that cost him three games before in conference play.

With six games left in the regular season, the current belief is that Robinson and Butler will be unavailable for at least a few more outings with both rehabbing to be back. That will affect the Wildcats going into the postseason, and even more so in the tournaments if they’re still not healthy by then, with them down their first three options at point guard in them as well as Kerr Kriisa.

No. 17 Kentucky still has high expectations as one of the top seeds currently projected in the NCAA Tournament. Still, the longer these injuries take to heal, the further those could slip, especially with this update on Robinson that sounds as though he’ll continue to be on the sideline for the foreseeable future…unless, of course, he starts shooting with that left.
