Kentucky insider reveals Jay Boulware will be Wildcats' new special teams, running back coach
According to Matt Jones of On3’s KSR, Jay Boulware is expected to become the next running backs and special teams coach for the Kentucky Wildcats. Boulware has not coached over the last two seasons but has experience at Texas and Oklahoma.
“I expect Jay Boulware to be the new RB and Special Teams coach at Kentucky,” Jones said. “He most recently had a similar role at Oklahoma and Texas.”
Boulware does also have SEC experience under his belt, working with the Auburn Tigers for four seasons. He was the special teams and tight ends coach during the 2010 national championship season under Gene Chizik.
Oklahoma was the next destination, spending seven seasons under Bob Stoops and Lincoln Riley. Boulware’s latest venture was in Austin with the Longhorns, spending the final season of the Tom Herman era before Steve Sarkisian stepped in at Texas.
Special teams coach was a role Boulware had at both Red River rival programs but had running backs at Texas and tight ends for Oklahoma. At the very least, Kentucky will be getting somebody who has extensive Power Five experience at the position he is reportedly being hired for.

Kentucky quarterback Will Levis skipping bowl, preparing for NFL Draft
Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, to the surprise of no one, is headed to the 2023 NFL Draft after two seasons starting for the Wildcats — after transferring from Penn State. Levis also made clear he is not going to play in the Music City Bowl and shared a farewell message to Kentucky fans on Wednesday.
While this Kentucky season might’ve disappointed on the field with Levis getting hurt for a spell and the Wildcats generally struggling on offense, it’s clear just how special of a place it has become for Levis.
“If I have one thing to hold in my heart from my time here in Lexington, it’s that Kentucky has my back and that everything ahead of me wouldn’t be possible without the support and encouragement I received along the way,” Levis wrote in a post on Twitter.
