JD PicKell: Kentucky football fanbase grateful, hungry entering 2022
It’s important to take the pulse of a program before the season to get an idea of what to expect for the upcoming season. Kentucky is no different. A basketball school, no matter what online feuds occur, Kentucky fans are some of the most realistic in the SEC. At the same time, 2022 feels like it could be special for the Wildcats.
On3’s J.D. PicKell explained why the Kentucky football fanbase is both grateful but hungry to take the next step going into the 2022 season.
“The fanbase is sort of a unique situation,” J.D. PicKell said on The Hard Count. “Because the Kentucky Wildcat faithful are grateful. They’re extremely grateful. Before Mark Stoops, there had been two 10-win seasons. Now, Mark Stoops comes comes to Kentucky–he’s two 10-win seasons in the last four years.”
“Needless to say, they’re grateful for what he’s done for their program.”
J.D. PicKell says that, while they’re grateful, Kentucky fans now want to know if they can beat “the final boss.” They want to know if they can get over the hump. Right now, that means beating Georgia and winning the SEC East.

On top of that, with Will Levis at quarterback, Kentucky fans think they have the best quarterback in the SEC East. Figuring out that position is easily the most important thing when it comes to winning major college football games and getting over the proverbial hump.
“If we could win the SEC East and we could get to a Sugar Bowl, that would be the next step for us at Kentucky is how that fanbase feels,” J.D. PicKell emphasized. “And I for one have a hard time blaming them.”
