John Calipari on loss vs Alabama: ‘I don’t even know if I want to look at the tape’
The Kentucky Wildcats Men’s basketball squad took it on the chin on Saturday, suffering a 26-point loss on the road to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 78-52. After the game, Wildcats head coach John Calipari tried to make sense of what went wrong for his team in the postgame press conference. But he even admitted at one point that he doesn’t even know if he wants to look at the game tape.
“We gotta regroup. We got a game on Tuesday. Yeah, we got a game, and we gotta regroup and go,” said Calipari. “I don’t even know if I want to look at the tape. I may watch the first half. And again, I came in and said we fouled two guards that we didn’t need to foul, and we gave up a three to Brandon, which was seven. We gave up five dunks off of Oscar.
“We were okay. I went back with the starters, and we played better when they weren’t in. Well, that can’t be who we are; there’s no way. And the other guys can play in spots, but when you try to play them for 12 minutes, they’re going to break down. They haven’t played that much. I thought Adou (Thiero) did some great stuff today. But his stuff is not to be playing 15 minutes in a half.”
Poor shooting and costly mistakes doomed the Wildcats in their SEC showdown. Kentucky finished the game shooting 28.8 percent from the field, 25 percent from beyond the arc, and only attempting eight free throws. Alabama, on the other hand, made eighteen of their 26 free throw attempts courtesy of the 20 personal files committed by Kentucky.

Calipari’s hilarious reaction to Antonio Reeves’ three-pointer
It took a moment, but Kentucky basketball found its footing on the road against No. 7 Alabama. After the Tide mounted a 13-4 run to start the game, Kentucky guard Antonio Reeves nailed a catch-and-shoot three-pointer to help the ‘Cats gain momentum.
The trey was Kentucky’s first of the game and head coach John Calipari’s reaction embodied all of Big Blue Nation after the slow start.
Kentucky’s first-half comeback was mounted by the members of the Wildcats’ bench. Star players Oscar Tshiebwe and Cason Wallace found themselves in foul trouble – and Tshiebwe’s matchup against Alabama’s Charles Bediako caused him problems.
