John Calipari provides update on TyTy Washington injury
Following their 78-57 win over Florida, Kentucky head coach John Calipari spoke after the game about the injury suffered by freshman TyTy Washington. The young star guard appeared to suffer a serious injury after a collision to his leg while going for a loose ball, and Washington limped his way off the court in a hurry to the team’s locker room.
Calipari updates Washington’s injury status
“It’s his left lower leg,” said Calipari on Washington’s injury as he began his postgame press conference. “I went in to see him, said ‘You alright?’ Probably day-to-day, but it’s his lower leg.”
“There was an X-ray,” Calipari added to his comments, via Kentucky Sports Radio’s Tyler Thompson. “So yeah. If it looked like something was there, I’d be like, oh. He still might be out a week or two. It could be a muscle, it could be something that separated.”
Calipari didn’t elaborate on anything beyond his initial comments, even when pressed on whether he felt the play itself was a controversial one. The play which injured Washington drew criticism for not having a foul called on the play, even for incidental contact. Shortly afterwards, another controversial moment came after a Florida player seemed to shove Kentucky’s Lance Ware in the back after a dead ball. Officials reviewed the incident on the monitors, but ruled that there was no technical foul that would be assessed for the extra contact.

“I’ll watch them on tape,” said Calipari of the no-calls on both plays. “When I see them on tape, I’ll comment to the league about them. If I did think they were obvious, they’ve gotta explain why they weren’t called.”
Kentucky emerged from the tense game with a big win, continuing their run as one of the best teams in the nation and pushing their current win streak to six games. The Wildcats are one game behind Auburn in conference play, with a 21-4 record on the year.
