John Calipari updates health of TyTy Washington, Sahvir Wheeler vs. Arkansas
Over the past two games, Kentucky has played without its dynamic point guard duo. While the Wildcats have survived for two wins without TyTy Washington or Sahvir Wheeler, they hope to add both injured stars into the lineup ahead of a late regular season push and the postseason.
During his postgame press conference, John Calipari revealed the latest injury update on TyTy Washington and Sahvir Wheeler ahead of an important road trip against Arkansas this weekend.
“They may not be ready in two days,” said Calipari, via KSR’s Tyler Thompson. “We may have the same team going down to Arkansas.”
Washington is currently dealing with a leg injury while Wheeler recovers from a wrist ailment. The duo not only combines to score 22 points per game for Kentucky but also adds 11.2 assists and just 4.7 turnovers.
As a freshman, former five-star recruit TyTy Washington has emerged as a potential lottery pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. In 25 games, he averages 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists with 1.2 steals. Wheeler, a Georgia transfer, is averaging 9.6 points, 7.1 assists and 1.3 steals this season.
John Calipari provides more information
Kentucky head coach John Calipari said he had two days to figure out “how in the hell [is Kentucky] going to play” without TyTy Washington and Sahvir Wheeler after injuries. Judging by the Wildcats’ 90-81 victory over No. 25 Alabama, the rest of their team stepped up.

Calipari had leaned heavily on his pair of prolific point guards throughout the season, and to great success. Saturday was the first time all season that Kentucky didn’t have either of their primary ball handlers play even a minute. It might have to be an absence they’ll have to deal with moving forward.
“They may be out another couple of games. I need them healthy by March,” Calipari said before the Alabama game.
Washington is battling said left lower leg injury he suffered a week ago vs. Florida, while Wheeler injured his right wrist Tuesday at Tennessee. He was also seen grabbing his wrist at the end of the Tennessee game.
After looking at X-rays, John Calipari said Washington was day-to-day. He suited up against Tennessee on Tuesday and tried to give it a go, but was clearly not 100 percent. Less than a minute into the second half, Washington went down and had to limp to the bench and watched the rest of the game from the sidelines, clearly frustrated.
