Justin Edwards shares excitement for how Kentucky is meshing
There’s always an aspect when it comes to meshing for a team. That’s especially true when you cycle through players as much as Kentucky does. Even so, Justin Edwards says not to fear as, in his eyes, the Wildcats are already ahead of schedule in that department.
Edwards commented on how connected UK’s latest roster already is with the media ahead of the program’s trip to play in the GLOBL JAM next week. He said any concern is from people who aren’t with them every day because, inside the Joe Craft Center, everything is a-okay when it comes to their connection to each other on the floor so far.
“I feel like that’s off people not knowing our team yet. I just feel like they’re going off the names. But, like, if you were to watch us play? We, like, go together really good,” Edwards said.
Ahead of Kentucky’s trip to Toronto, Edwards believes fans will get to see what he’s talking about first hand. With international matchups in front of them, he says they’ll be taking an unselfish approach into those contests.
“How unselfish our team is I would say. Our team is really unselfish. And we all play for one another,” said Edwards.

The turnover on the Wildcat’s roster from last season to now is as dramatic as it’s ever been for the program under John Calipari. In total, eight players left Lexington. Four departed to turn pro in the NBA Draft while four more went to different schools in the transfer portal.
That then left a very empty locker room for Calipari and his staff to fill. That’s especially so considering Kentucky’s only experience was in the form of sophomores Adou Thiero and Ugonna Onyenso. They started by filling it with the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class, which included Edwards. Still, that only gave them seven players and a whole bunch of questions about youth.
However, the recent return of Antonio Reeves and the commitment of Tre Mitchell through the portal has put the finishing touches on a UK roster that’s in a far better place today than it was at earlier points of the offseason.
Kentucky had several gaps to fill in their lineup. In the end, they had to get creative, and even prayerful in one case, in order to fill them too. Now that they have been slotted, though, Edwards says that their Wildcat team is well on its way to taking its shape ahead of the season.
