In the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Kansas State proved that it was the superior Wildcats in a win over Kentucky. After that game one assistant coach on Kansas State used Twitter to call out John Calipari.

That’s because, in his postgame press conference, John Calipari referred to one of Kansas State’s players as a little kid. Jareem Dowling, one of Kansas State’s assistant coaches, took issue with this and quote tweeted a video of Calipari saying that on Twitter.

“Yo! @UKCoachCalipari U done this for a long time and one of the best on the mic,” Dowling tweeted. “Never you refer to a great player as little kid!”

“Put some respect on @MrNewYorkCityy you know he could play for you too! Say his name! Like you would @Drake he do right and kill everything! #EMAW.”

Clearly, he wants Calipari to say Markquis Nowell’s name. After all, Nowell did score 27 points with nine assists against Kentucky. Calipari should be able to remember who he is, or maybe not figuring out who he is cost Kentucky the game.

At the same time, getting called out for knowing Drake is pretty hysterical.

With the win, Kansas State advanced to the Sweet Sixteen, where the Wildcats will play Michigan State. Kentucky, meanwhile, was eliminated in the second round. John Calipari hasn’t led Kentucky deeper than that in the NCAA Tournament since 2019.

Jerome Tang on Kentucky’s tradition

After the game, Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang pointed out that Kentucky can have all the tradition in the world. However, none of that matters if they don’t have any great players on the roster.

“We have a program that’s rich in tradition also,” Tang said.

“I mean, like, all those old dudes that played for Kentucky? They ain’t coming back, right? So tradition does not help you if you don’t go out there on the floor and play with some dudes. And we had more dudes than they did today

John Calipari thinks his seniors played their final game

After the game, John Calipari admitted that he thinks his seniors played their final game at Kentucky. That includes all six of the team’s seniors, though he still needs to have conversations with them about it.

As Tyler Thompson at KSR reported, Calipari expects them all to go. She tweeted, “John Calipari said he believes all six of Kentucky’s seniors will leave, but that’s just his guess. They will sit down and have those conversations later.”
