There has been a lot of optimism going into Kenny Brooks’ first season at Kentucky. However, the first bit of bad news this offseason has come out of Lexington.

Per a press release on Monday, both Jordan Obi and Dominika Paurová have suffered leg injuries. Each will keep their respective player out indefinitely according to the program.

Obi transferred to join the Wildcats after four seasons at Penn. In her three seasons with the Quakers, she averaged 13.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and a block in 83 games. That includes her senior season last year where she posted 14.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 blocks en route to be a First-Team All-Ivy League Selection. She had made the All-Ivy League Second Team the two seasons prior.

As for Paurová, she transfers in after a lone season at Oregon State where she appeared 35 times as a freshman. In those games with the Beavers, she averaged 5.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in just over 16.4 minutes. This comes after hailing from Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic where she has represented her country several times over through her career.

Kentucky still has around three months or so until they really start ramping up towards the start of their season. While they’re indefinite matters, that gives them a runway here where both Obi and Paurová can heal going into their first years in the bluegrass.

It’s the biggest investment in women’s sports facilities in school history at Kentucky. It’ll reopen as a state-of-the-art facility for their women’s basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics teams and the school wants to let the world know about it.

“Big Blue Nation, we are nearing the finish line of something truly historic,” the commercial says, narrated by Emma Green, Isabella Magnelli, Georgia Amoore, and Asia Thigpen. “Fueled by the legacy of those who came before us and the spirit of every Wildcat. Stories written, championships won. These walls may look different but these halls still carry that spirit. The largest investment in women’s athletics in our history.

“Four sports to carry the banner in honor of all Kentuckians for who this building was named. Welcome back to Historic Memorial Coliseum.”

The commercial will air throughout the 2024 Paris Olympics ahead of the venue’s official reopening in mid-August for the start of volleyball season.
