5-star PG Boogie Fland commits to Kentucky

Boogie Fland, the nation’s No. 1 ranked point guard, is officially off the board and he’s headed to the University of Kentucky to play for John Calipari. 

Fland, a 6-foot-3 senior out of White Plains (N.Y.) Archbishop Stepinac, ultimately chose the Wildcats over Indiana and Alabama. He also received offers from North Carolina, UConn, St. John’s, Maryland, Michigan, and others. 

“I chose Kentucky because of the history of success with the guards that have come through there,” Fland said to On3. “Coach Cal is going to challenge me to be the best version of myself.  He didn’t promise me anything, playing time, shots, etc. He only promised me a chance to compete and fight! The first fight is with myself every day and I’m betting on me! BBN BABY, LET’S DO IT!”

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Fland is the No. 20 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are higher on him, ranking him 15th nationally.

Boogie Fland was a member of the 2022 USA Basketball U17 National Team, and he helped lead Team USA to a gold medal in Sprain. The championship win came on his birthday, and it was such an impactful moment in his life that he has something that will help him never forget it. “That was one of a kind,” Fland told On3’s Kentucky Sports Report. “Just to be able to win a gold medal on my birthday is something that I’ll keep with me forever. I actually got a tattoo of the medal on my arm because of the significance of it. That made the game extra special.” Even with his success and lofty recruiting ranking, Fland says he’s still working on becoming a better player. “My favorite player is Ja Morant,” Fland said. “What he does with his team, I try to look up to that. I’m still working to be more like him. I’m working on everything. I try to do as much as possible on the court for me, my team and my family. I can adapt to any playing style, that can be with anybody. As long as you put your mind to it and do what your coaches tell you to do, you can fit into any play style.” Fland averaged 14.4 points and five rebounds in his sophomore season for New York City’s Archbishop Stepinac High School. As a freshman, he averaged 9.8 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Scouting Report

Boogie Fland plays with a New York flair. He has a good handle and is able to shoot the ball from each level. He has deep range off the bounce and will pull up if you give him an inch. He sees the floor well, gets his teammates in evolved, and takes care of the ball, valuing possessions. There is a floater game in there as well, with a one and two dribble pull-up. He will need to continue getting stronger, and he is a solid athlete and has average length. The confidence is sky-high, and the skill set is obvious. He has a comfort playing on the ball or off the ball in a two-guard lineup. Never afraid of the spotlight. Charismatic. – On3’s Jamie Shaw
