Karter Knox, an elite prospect in the 2024 class, has committed to Kentucky, he told On3.

The 6-foot-6 small forward out of Overtime Elite (GA) chose the Wildcats over Louisville, South Florida, and a return to OTE for a post-grad year.

Knox will be following in the footsteps of his older brother and former lottery pick Kevin Knox, who played for John Calipari and UK during the 2017-18 season.

A native of Riverview, Fla., Knox is ranked as a four-star and the No. 20 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Karter Knox becomes the sixth member to Kentucky’s 2024 recruiting class. He joins Five-Star Plus+ C Jayden Quaintance (No. 8), four-star PG Boogie Fland (No. 19), four-star SF Billy Richmond (No. 23), four-star C Somto Cyril (No. 41), and four-star PG Travis Perry (No. 86). All rankings are according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Scouting Report

“Karter Knox is a lengthy and explosive wing. His frame is very projectable and already physically developed, and he has broad shoulders with arms that flow down; should add good weight relatively easily once he gets to a college strength and conditioning program. He is a straight-line driver off the bounce. Gets into the paint and violently attacks the rim, playing way above it. He plays well out of the dunker spot, is an apt back door cutter, and attacks the offensive boards. Would like to see him develop the jump shot more, at least become average in the catch and shoot.

The form and release are OK, balance points and trajectory are inconsistent. He is a strong straight-line driver, needs to develop a counter or two if he gets his path cut off. There is a lot of upside defensively. He has great length with quick twitch and explosion. Can switch down a line up and guard fours also the athleticism to run with twos and threes. Will need to continue tightening the mechanics and keeping a consistent motor. Is the younger brother of NBAer Kevin Knox.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw

About Karter Knox

Karter Knox is part of a basketball family. His older brother, Kevin Knox, has played in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers and New York Knicks. Kevin Knox was also a first-round pick coming out of Kentucky in 2018. Karter Knox has developed into one of the top recruits in the Class of 2024, largely because of his ability to do a little bit of everything. “I’ve been working a lot on my playmaking skills,” Knox told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “I’m working on being a three-level scorer and my finishing at the rim. I’m watching a lot of Paul George, a guy who has good size and plays defense and is a three-level scorer.” Knox had a successful 2022-2023 basketball season.

He combined to average 20.7 points and 7.5 rebounds through the prestigious City of Palms and Beach Ball Classic in December 2022. Knox was also a member of the 2022 USA Basketball U17 National Team. He averaged 20.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.6 steals in the 2021-2022 season for Tampa (Florida) Catholic. He also led Catholic in scoring as a freshman with 17.5 points and 5.7 rebounds.
